KUALA LUMPUR: A runner who was seen supporting his fellow runner to make it to the finish line of the Kuala Lumpur Standard Marathon last weekend has shown the true meaning of camaraderie among sportsmen.

In a viral video by TikTok user Aimandope, which has gained more than 180,000 views showed the touching moment when the runner decked in yellow sports jersey helped the other man, who was limping and clearly struggling to even move.

A third runner was also there to offer some first aid with a magnesium leg cramp spray.

The runner in yellow sports jersey proceeded to hold the hand of the injured runner as they both walked for the rest of the route.

The video has so far received about 9,000 likes and was reshared nearly 300 times.

It touched the hearts of netizens who applauded the duo's friendship despite its being a sports competition.

Social media user syhmrdz said the injured runner was lucky to have kind-hearted fellow runner pass him by.

"Friends during hard and happy times. (We) can see from how they hold hands, and the willingness to wait. I want to have a friend like that too."

TikTok user @fl8_2902 said: "It is proven that sports can unite Malaysians!"

Meanwhile, another social media user @lastchapterofmine said it was nice to see two sportsmen pushing aside their desire to win the race to focus on what was more important.

"Maybe he has told his friend to leave him but the friend doesn't care about the promise and wants to be with his friends in times of trouble. Different people have different ways of being friends. Real medal."

The marathon was held at Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur from Sep 30 to Oct 1.
