KUALA LUMPUR: The utilisation of an artificial intelligence (AI) program by a student to complete an assignment has sparked debate among netizens regarding academic integrity and the implications of advanced technologies in education.

The incident came to light when educational content creation company Ajar Malaysia shared a picture on Twitter, garnering responses from online users.

"It's strange to think back about this. Did he (the student) really not read it (the paper) at all before submitting? Oh dear.

"We might find it funny at first glance, but looking at it for the second time, it's simply just sad," the caption read.

The image showed the phrase "an AI language model" underlined in red, providing evidence that the person grading the paper had identified the student's use of AI technology to complete the assignment.

Additionally, a striking remark in red ink was written at the bottom of the paper, reading, "Not your reflection."

Ajar highlighted the importance of maintaining academic integrity and expressed concerns about the potential impact on professional environments.

"This is an issue of integrity. If even integrity is taken lightly during studying, imagine what will happen in the working world," it said.

The tweet prompted reactions from netizens, with many expressing disappointment and concern about the situation.

User @HarisCountrys voiced concerns about the incident, stating, "This is what I fear about AI programming. Yes, it possesses significant capabilities, and if used appropriately, it can be beneficial. However, all technologies have undeniable drawbacks, and the issue of cheating (which I consider this to be) is one of them."

"(This is) another level of plagiarism. It seems that they do not care about the quality of their work as long as the assignment is submitted," said @AlepNasr_.

Meanwhile, user Miswan expressed disappointment in the tendency of the current generation to rely on copy-and-paste methods, stating, "They literally copied and pasted the work without making any changes. It's saddening to witness this behavior among the present generation."
