KULIM: Two-year-old Muhammad Luth Syauqi Abdul Rahman, one of two boys who died eating snacks laced with rat poison, was laid next to his brother's grave.
It was a sombre scene at the Kampung Banggol Berangan Islamic Cemetery as a vehicle transporting the body arrived from Penang General Hospital at 11.07pm.
The body was taken to Surau Lebai Ahmad, located next to the cemetery for funeral prayers prior to the burial ceremony.
Also present were his mother, Nurain Hasnorizal, 25, their family members, and some 300 mourners.
Nurain was seen shedding tears as Luth's body was brought to the cemetery and laid to rest next to his brother's grave.
The funeral process was completed by 11.30pm.
It was the second funeral in two days for the grieving family after Luth's brother Muhammad Akil Syauqi, 3, was laid to rest here, after succumbing to the excruciating pain of ingesting the rat poison.
Akil breathed his last at the Penang General Hospital on Wednesday evening. Luth had followed suit about 1.24pm today at the same hospital.
Both young brothers never regained consciousness after the Monday fateful tragedy.
It was reported that the two brothers were rushed to the hospital after eating snacks containing rat poison near their home at Kampung Banggol Berangan in Labu Besar, Kulim, Kedah, on Sunday.
The incident came to light after Nurain noticed her youngest son having a seizure shortly after he returned home with his brother from playing outside.
She rushed to check Muhammad Akil Syauqi and was shocked to find that he too was in a similar condition and frothing at the mouth.
On Thursday, police obtained a six-day remand order against a 33-year-old farmer from the same village for further investigation.
It was reported that he was apprehended in Lubuk Buntar, Serdang, on Wednesday afternoon.
