PENAMPANG: Following the closure of the Kasigui water treatment plant (WTP), here, the Kota Kinabalu district water engineer will prioritise the delivery of potable water to flood-hit areas for essential services.

According to a Sabah Water Department's Facebook post, the delivery would focus on hospitals and the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

"As of today, at 7.40pm, several WTPs in the affected areas have started to operate gradually.

"However, the Kasigui WTP intake remains non-operational as the river water level is still at 8.4m. Under normal conditions, the Kasigui WTP operates at a water level of 4m.

"To ensure the supply of clean water, the Kota Kinabalu district water engineer has taken the initiative to urge Jetama (Sdn Bhd) to expedite the cleaning and repair works of the Mansiang WTP intake.

"These works are expected to be completed by tomorrow morning, enabling the plant to supply at least 20 million litres per day (MLD)."

The department added that the delivery of clean water to other areas in need will continue tomorrow morning once the Mansiang WTP is fully operational.
