TANGKAK: The Gunung Ledang National Park and the Gunung Ledang Waterfalls will be temporarily closed for two weeks, effective immediately following concerns over suspected leptospirosis cases reported in the district.
State Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the attractions have been closed immediately to the public as a precautionary measure following reported cases.
He said the the closure was recommended by the Tangkak district health office.
"The temporarily closures are a precautionary measure taken to ensure locals and visitors' safety while thorough inspections and sanitation are conducted," he said in a statement today.
The district health office issued the closure order under Section 18(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
He said the health officers collected samples from the park and waterfall areas and determined that early preventive measures were crucial to ensure public safety.
"The temporary closure will allow authorities to conduct extensive cleaning operations, ensuring that the park and its facilities are free of contamination.
"During this period, visitors are advised to stay informed and avoid the areas to prevent any health risks associated with leptospirosis," the statement read.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection commonly transmitted through water contaminated with urine from infected animals.
Symptoms can range from mild flu-like effects to severe illness.
Ling advised visitors and locals to monitor updates from the Tangkak district health office or the official Gunung Ledang National Park websites, on the reopening schedule and the status of safety measures being implemented.
