PASIR GUDANG: A five-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a school van in front of her house on Jalan Suria, Bandar Seri Alam, at 11.35am today.

Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that the incident occurred when the van driver, a 50-year-old woman, dropped off the victim and her six-year-old brother in front of their home.

The driver, after seeing the victim's brother pass safely behind the vehicle, began to drive away, believing the girl was following her brother. Tragically, the driver unintentionally hit the girl as she crossed in front of the van.

"As a result of the incident, the victim suffered severe injuries," he said.

The driver immediately exited the van to check on the girl and informed her mother.

The victim's mother rushed her to the Masai health clinic, where she was confirmed dead by a health officer.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving.

The van driver has been detained to assist with the investigation.

"We advise the public to always comply with traffic rules and regulations and to drive vehicles in a cautious and responsible manner," he said.
