KEPALA BATAS: A picnic for 13 friends at Pantai Kuala Muda ended in tragedy when two of them drowned.
The deceased have been identified as Ho Wei Keat, 26, and Lim You Yi, 14.
Ho's body was recovered at 6.50pm, while Lim's was found at 7.30pm.
Seberang Perai Utara acting police chief, Superintendent Zulkeflee Sulaiman, said police were alerted to the incident at about 5.08pm.
"We received a call informing us that two individuals had drowned at Pantai Kuala Muda," he told the New Straits Times when contacted.
"The 13, including the deceased, were playing in the water. We believe the incident could have happened due to the strong current."
Their remains have been taken to the hospital for the next course of action.
