PUTRAJAYA: The unity government today announced that the theme for the 2024 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations will be "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka".

In unveiling this, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the theme was in line with the government's determination and commitment to develop the country and unite the people.

He said the government's Malaysia Madani official logo will be retained for both celebrations.

"Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka has been chosen as the theme for the 2024 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. Malaysia Madani refers to the pillar of the country's prosperity and progress through the support of six main core values.

"Meanwhile, Jiwa Merdeka expresses the people's freedom from any negative elements in interpreting the patriotic spirit through aspects of thought, social integration and the economy," he said in his speech at the launch of the theme.

Fahmi added that the government will also launch the "Kibar Jalung Gemilang" initiative for the national month, aimed at instilling a patriotic spirit within Malaysians, on July 13.

"The significance of this launch is for the National Day celebration countdown in Putrajaya. Subsequently, the momentum of the celebration, as well as the patriotic spirit will continue to be fostered until the celebration of Malaysia Day on Sept 16 in Sabah."

At the same time, Fahmi also expressed hopes for all quarters to display the Malaysia Madani logo at all communication platforms to increase the spirt of patriotism towards both celebrations.

The National Day celebration this year will take place in Putrajaya for the second time under the Madani government, while Malaysia Day will be celebrated in Sabah.

This will be the sixth time the National Day celebration will be hosted in Putrajaya.

Last year, around 100,000 people flocked to Dataran Putrajaya for the celebration.
