KOTA KINABALU: The Society for the Sabah Heart Fund is seeking clarification from the Health Ministry regarding the establishment of the Sabah Heart Centre.

The society's president, Datuk Eva Susau, said this is due to the recent statement by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad which indicated that the ministry has yet to make an official decision on the matter.

"This apparent contradiction between the prime minister's earlier announcement and the Health Ministry's current stance needs to be addressed to ensure clarity and continued trust in public institutions."

On April 20, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Sabah National Heart Centre would be established with an allocation of RM80 million from the federal government.

"However, the health minister's statement suggests that the formal processes and approvals have not been completed.

"This discrepancy can lead to the perception that the prime minister's announcement was more about creating a favorable impression or political gain rather than reflecting a fully coordinated and actionable plan," said Eva in a statement

The society also urged the health minister to visit Queen Elizabeth II Hospital and observe the dire need for such a facility and potential of the proposed site for it.

"The visit would also help in aligning the efforts and communications between different government bodies and provide reassurance to the public," Eva said.

The society expressed hope for a prompt and clear resolution that aligns with the prime minister's commitment to enhancing healthcare in Sabah.
