KOTA BARU: Pas has expressed its condolences to the families of two policemen who died in the attack on Ulu Tiram police station this morning.

Its Information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said Pas also prayed that the souls of these two heroes be placed among the pious.

The Pasir Mas Member of Parliament said Pas has called for a thorough investigation into the incident, including the reason that prompted the attackers to do so.

"Pas would like to express our condolences to the victim's families and hope that their families are given the strength to cope with the loss.

"Pas believe that the control and the dealing methods at police station which is a critical location, need to be re-evaluated in order to comply with security features especially at midnight as normally midnight has a limited number of members on duty," he said in a statement.

Ahmad Fadhli also said today's attack was a black moment in the history of the Royal Malaysian Police Force.

"It almost repeated the history of the attack on Batu Pahat police station in 1980 by followers of deviant teachings.

"The difference this time is that the two policemen died compared to the attack in Batu Pahat which resulted in the injury of several policemen," he added.

He said Pas hoped that the public would remain calm and give the police and the Home Ministry a space to act and conduct a thorough investigation.

It was reported two policemen were killed, and another injured, after a masked intruder stormed the Ulu Tiram police station here, early this morning.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar confirmed the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station, at 3am today.

The two policemen who were killed, and the other who was injured in the attack, were believed to have been slashed by the suspect, who was masked and dressed in dark clothing. He was armed with a parang.

The attacker was shot dead at the scene.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain said the suspect who stormed a police station in Ulu Tiram here early this morning, killing two policemen and injuring another, is believed to have links to Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

He said five members of the suspect's family have been arrested and JI material was found at the suspect's home.
