GEORGETOWN: Five people were injured in an accident involving three cars and a motorcycle on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway here last night.

However, it is understood that the owner of one of the vehicles involved was not at the scene immediately after the incident.

Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Fairol Mahazi Malek said that earlier, a team of 10 personnel, along with two fire engines, was dispatched to the location upon receiving a call at 11.35pm.

Upon arrival, he said, they found three victims seriously injured while two others sustained injuries to their upper bodies. One other victim, however, was not at the location.

"The rescue team extracted a female driver who was trapped using special equipment. We took about 15 minutes due to the severely damaged condition of her vehicle," he said when contacted here today.

Fairol said the other injured victims were sent to Penang Hospital (HPP) using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle. He added that the cleanup of the oil spill was also conducted using a fire hose and the operation ended at 12.22am.

Video footage of the accident that was recorded on a dashboard camera has gone viral on social media.

The recording shows a car coming from Georgetown skidding into the opposite lane from Bayan Lepas before colliding with other vehicles.
