MAKKAH: Pilgrims and Tabung Haji personnel on duty for the haj season this year will be able to enjoy faster access to information thanks to adoption of the Content Delivery Network (CDN).
Tabung Haji haj technology and information director Ashraf Ahmad said the network is a cloud computing system which will be implemented for the first time this year to all TH systems to ensure faster access.
"Previously, access to networks in Malaysia took some time, more than 300 milliseconds (ms) compared to now, which is only around 20 ms.
"There are six applications used by staff and pilgrims, including i-Sihat, Bersepadu, THiJari, Hajj Mobility, Stock & Inventory and the core system, all of which utilise the CDN.
"With a faster system, some improvements we can make include the placement of prospective pilgrims in Masyair. We are able to obtain data on family members quickly to enable placement of family members together with members who have special needs," he told the media during a briefing here yesterday.
Ashraf said the network also made it easier for TH to organise the accommodation of pilgrims at the dormitories, allowing them to keep families together.
Pilgrims' health data is another important element in managing the haj operations, and TH has linked its i-Sihat system with MySejahtera data, thus making it easier for health workers to access the background of a pilgrim if they fall ill.
He said TH's haj technology and information division has a strength of 20 members including two in Madinah who came earlier to set up the network system in both locations, Madinah and Makkah.
"We also installed six dedicated lines supplied by a Saudi Arabian telecommunications company to strengthen the infrastructure of this year's haj operations. There is no server system installed here because the pilgrim's database uses a cloud computing system," he said.
