TUMPAT: The two Malaysian women who were injured in a bomb explosion in Narathiwat, south Thailand, on Monday night were thankful to survive the blast with light injuries.
Describing the incident as a nightmare, 31-year-old Siti Aishah Ismail and her sister-in-law, Hariza Aziz, were both slightly injured in the incident.
The two were in Narathiwat for their grandmother's funeral on Monday (May 6).
Recalling the incident, Siti Aisyah said they decided to visit a beach after dinner when the bomb exploded in the area around 10.30pm Malaysian time.
"I brought my 4-year-old son Mohd Afiq Danish with me while Hariza brought her 31-year-old husband Mohd Azam Ibrahim with her.
"I parked my motorcycle near some Thai-registered ones, while Hariza parked her car near the recreational park.
"Four of us were sitting about 40metres (m) from our vehicles when suddenly we heard a loud explosion coming from the parking lot.
"At that time, l felt something hitting my forehead and chin, and l saw my sister-in-law groaning in pain," said the mother-of-three.
Siti Aisyah said she.then immediately grabbed her son while Azam hugged his wife.
"I could see several people near us were injured. We were lucky that we escaped this terrible attack," she said.
The four were interviewed by reporters after arriving at Pengkalan Kubor jetty in Kelantan from Narathiwat today (May 8).
Hariza, who is about seven months pregnant with her third baby, was still traumatised but glad that she and her baby were safe.
"This was a horror experience for me and my husband. We have been travelling to Narathiwat oftenly and the incident was the first occur to us," she said.
Hariza's car and Siti Aisyah's bike were slightly damaged in the incident. The bomb, which was planted in a Thai-registered motorcycle, also injured six locals.
