KUCHING: The Malay community in Sarawak is being encouraged to master technology to earn high regard and respect, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said in order for the Malay community to thrive, they must become proficient in technology, akin to the ancestors who mastered the science of navigation.

"If we can excel in technology, others will hold us in high esteem. So, let's not be left behind, as the saying goes.

"They are just like us, so read extensively, enhance knowledge, and engage in discussions to enhance our technological prowess.

"I am confident that the Sarawak Malay Cultural Foundation Charitable Trust (AKYBMS) will play a significant role in elevating our society in the Malay Archipelago to a respected level, starting right here in Sarawak," he said.

He made these comments during the Samarindok Aidilfitri 2024M/1445H programme organised by AKYBMS on Tuesday.

The event was graced by the presence of the Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Abang Johari added that the state government will continue its efforts to boost Sarawak's economy and income beyond 2023.

Additionally, the event, themed 'SAMAberambeh, SAMAberinggo, SAMAbadudun,' was enriched with various performances, including Pencak Silat, Syair Negeri Santubong by Fauzan Iz'aan, a singing performance by Sarawak-born artist Hafiz Shuib, and many others.
