KUCHING: The Sarawak Malay Cultural Foundation Charitable Trust (AKYBMS) is set to participate in the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival scheduled for June this year, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and chairman of AKYBMS Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said it will join the festival through the establishment of a Malay Nusantara Ensemble group.

He said AKYBMS, in collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Ministry, is working towards having several elements of Sarawak Malay cultural heritage recognised and included in the state's heritage list. They are also aiming for recognition as a world heritage site by Unesco.

"We will propose several Jawi-Malay handwritten works and manuscripts for this purpose this year.

"These include the novel Hikayat Panglima Nikosa (1876), Syair Datu Marapati (1885), Manuscripts of Lawas and Limbang, Hikayat Datuk Marapati (1932), Syair Tarsilah Cetera Datuk Gudam dengan Temenggong Kadir (1942), and manuscripts of Banting State History and Banting State Laws," he said.

He made these remarks during the Samarindok Aidilfitri 2024M/1445H programme organised by AKYBMS on Tuesday.
