YAN: Kedah has produced over 150 metric tonnes of Harumanis mango with a sales value of RM5 million.

State Agriculture, Plantation and Transportation Committee chairman Dzowahir Ab Ghani said the yield was produced by 125 farmers who operated an accumulated 100ha of Harumanis orchards in the state.

He said the figure was an encouraging yield given that Kedah only started commercialising the premium mango breed under the Harumanis D'Aman brand in 2022.

"By next year, we expect to produce 600 tonnes to cater to nationwide demand. Actually, Harumanis was first planted in Kedah in 1971," he said after opening the Kedah Mango Fiesta 2024 at the Mango Technology Centre in Sala Kanan here today (May 2).

Dzowahir said the state encouraged farmers to capitalise on the high demand for Harumanis mango.

He added that farmers in Kedah could tap into the mango market as the centre had 111 mango varieties from all over the world.

"Those interested can contact the state Agriculture Department to obtain Harumanis saplings, fertilisers, and technical and guidance support.

"The crop offers a lucrative income with Harumanis D'Aman sold for between RM35 and RM40 per kilogramme," he said.
