PUTRAJAYA: The salary increase for civil servants that was announced today comes as a great relief, says Cuepacs.

The public sector union's president, Datuk Adnan Mat, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's commitment to swiftly review the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) study is appreciated.

"Alhamdulillah, the government has accepted every view provided by Cuepacs in the SSPA study.

"There is no reason for the government not to continue initiatives in the form of benefits for civil servants, for the services  provided to the people and  country.

"After a long time without any significant action by the government to improve the salary structure of civil servants, finally the prime minister has taken bold steps to accelerate the implementation of the new SSPA," he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Anwar announced more than 13 per cent  in civil servants' salaries.

The prime minister also said that the minimum pay for civil servants must exceed RM2,000.

Adnan said the commitment showed the government's appreciation for the 1.6 million civil servants.

He urged them to continue to work with the government to deliver top-notch services to the people and bolster the economy.

"Civil servants, as facilitators to the people and the economy, must carry out their duties with integrity and responsibility.

"Equip yourselves with skills to ensure that public services remain relevant to the needs of the people and the economy."
