KOTA KINABALU: Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda has been appointed the new Kota Kinabalu district police chief effective today.

The former Beluran district police chief replaces Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah, who retired from his position after serving since April 2021.

The handover ceremony was held at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters' multipurpose hall and was witnessed by state police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.

"Kasim has been appointed the Kota Kinabalu district police chief after serving as the Beluran district police chief for five years.

"It is believed that his extensive experience will allow him to fulfil the responsibility of ensuring the state's welfare and security," Dikun said at the ceremony.

He said Kota Kinabalu was the second busiest capital city in the country after Kuala Lumpur, adding that he hoped the 1,200-strong personnel of the district police headquarters here would cooperate with Kasim in administering daily policing tasks in the area.

Kasim said his goal was to reduce the community's fear of crime in the state capital.

He said he was also committed to the principle of making drug arrests every day and crimes related to drug abuse would be dealt with.

He added that he would implement changes to improve administration to ensure the state's security.
