YAN: Petty Officer TNL Noor Rahiza Anuar, who was among the 10 Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officers who perished in a helicopter crash in Lumut yesterday, was laid to rest at the Haji Nyak Gam Mosque islamic cemetery here today.

The remains of the 39-year-old officer arrived at the mosque at 9.07pm accompanied by her husband Chief Petty Officer Mohd Azinor Azizan, from the family's residence in Taman Perumahan Awam 2, Jalan Pantai Murni, following a post-mortem examination at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Perak.

Earlier, her body was taken to her family's home at 8.40pm.

More than 500 people including RMN personnel were at the mosque to perform funeral prayers, before Rahiza was buried near her late mother, Ratipa Yahaya's, grave according to military funeral ceremony customs.

First Admiral Azhar Adam then presented the Jalur Gemilang to Azinor.

Funeral proceedings concluded at 9.55pm.

Rahiza is survived by her husband Azinor and four children, namely, two 16-year-old twin daughters Nur Qistina Aliyah and Nur Qistina Auni, 15-year-old son Muhammad Qisti Afif, and five-year-old daughter Nur Qistina Afiya.

Yesterday, two armed forces helicopters crashed following a mid-air collision in Lumut, Perak.

All 10 crew in both helicopters perished.

The helicopter, an Agusta Westland AW139 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) and a Eurocopter Fennec, had collided during a mid-air manoeuvre during a flypast training for the RMN 90th Anniversary celebrations.

Following the mid-air collision, the AW139 HOM helicopter crashed at the steps of the Navy Stadium while the Fennec crashed near the pool of the Navy Sports Complex.
