KUALA LUMPUR: Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has criticised the controversial remarks made by a foreign guest professor at a public university, who accused Malaysia of advocating for a second Holocaust against the Jews.

The remarks were believed to be due to Malaysia's firm stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

She said the statement made by the American-Canadian professor, Bruce Gilley, misrepresents Malaysia's commitment to peace and its support for an independent Palestinian state.

"We have never advocated for a second Holocaust. In fact, it is the Zionist government of Israel that is currently committing genocide at every moment.

"Academic institutions should be very careful in inviting speakers and lecturers who are spreading pro-Zionist narratives," she said in a statement today.

Earlier, the comments made by the Canadian-American professor of political science and public policy sparked outrage on social media after he alleged that Malaysian political leaders endorsed a second Holocaust against the Jewish people.

"A country whose political leaders endorse a second Holocaust against the Jewish people will never be a credible player in global affairs and will certainly not be a friend or partner of the United States."

It is believed that this quote was from his keynote address on Malaysian foreign policy at an event organised by Universiti Malaya.

When contacted, a spokesperson from the university public relations unit said it would look into the matter before issuing a statement.

The Higher Education Ministry's corporate communication head, Hafiz Rosli, in a brief response, said they will review the matter and proceed with the appropriate actions.
