KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented to the cancellation of the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) 90th Anniversary celebrations and parade, which was scheduled for this Friday.

According to a post uploaded on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page today, this decision follows the tragic incident involving two RMN helicopters during a parade at the RMN Lumut Base, Perak, earlier this morning, which claimed the lives of 10 RMN personnel.

"Instead, a Yasin recital, tahlil and 'doa selamat' will be held at the An-Nur mosque at the RMN base in Lumut before Friday prayers," the post read.

The post also informed that Sultan Sharafuddin, as RMN Captain-in-Chief, is expected to attend the event.

Earlier, RMN confirmed the loss of 10 of its personnel in the tragedy, which happened at 9.32 am, involving seven crew members of the Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM-AW139) and three crew members of the TLDM Fennec.– BERNAMA
