KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will release the interim report on its investigation on the helicopter crash at the soonest date possible.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, however, did not specify any timeline.

"We will try to release the interim report as soon as possible and then the full report but all of this will take time.

"We rarely have such incidents (helicopter crashes). If possible, we want to conclude the full report as soon as possible," he told reporters after the Defence Ministry Hari Raya Celebration.

Earlier today, two Malaysian Armed Forces helicopters crashed following a mid-air collision over the naval base in Lumut, Perak.

All 10 crew members on board both helicopters perished.

The helicopters, an Agusta Westland AW139 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) and a Eurocopter Fennec, had collided during a mid-air manoeuvre during a flypast training for the Royal Malaysian Navy's 90th Anniversary celebrations.

Following the mid-air collision, the AW139 HOM helicopter crashed at the steps of the Navy Stadium while the Fennec crashed near the pool of the Navy Sports Complex.

The RMN has established an investigation board to investigate the incident.
