KUCHING: The Sarawak Boxing Association (SABA) has issued a stern reminder to its athletes, especially those selected to represent Sarawak at the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA), to maintain strict discipline or face expulsion from the team, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

SABA President Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said that the association will not compromise on disciplinary issues and is prepared to drop even those who have made it to the final squad.

During a SABA-hosted gathering at his residence in Kuching on Thursday, Rahman highlighted the importance of discipline in sports.

"No matter how good you are, without discipline, you are bound to fail. Discipline is crucial in sports," he said.

He also urged the selected boxing athletes to prove their worth and keep their places in the SUKMA Sarawak squad, noting that many other hopefuls are ready to take their spots. The athletes are expected to showcase their capabilities at the Sarawak Open Boxing Championship in May 2024 to secure their positions on the team.

Additionally, Rahman discussed plans for promising athletes to train abroad to enhance their skills and potentially represent Malaysia at upcoming SEA Games. He introduced Reynaldo Inocian, a seasoned coach with experience training world champion Manny Pacquiao, as part of the preparations for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Championship on May 11.
