KOTA BARU: Two express bus drivers tested positive for methamphetamine during a statewide Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024 carried out by the state Road Transport Department (RTD) recently.

Its director, Mohd Misuari Abdullah, stated that the errant drivers, both in their 40s, were found positive after failing the screening tests conducted by RTD officers at Lembah Sireh terminal on April 4.

He added that the two drivers were about to transport passengers to Kuala Lumpur when they tested positive for drugs.

"Subsequently, both were prevented from driving. They were later replaced by other drivers to transport passengers to their destinations.

"This is the first recorded case in two years involving express bus drivers," he informed during a press conference after participating in the operation.

Misuari mentioned that a total of 283 officers from several agencies participated in the operation, which began on April 1 and lasted until April 20.

In addition to the department, he noted that the operation also involved the police, the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada), immigration, registration, and environment departments.

"The operation covered several locations, especially in urban areas such as Jalan Kuala Krai and Jalan Panji," he added.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Nada assistant officer Sufian Husin stated that the urine tests of the two drivers have been sent to the pathology division for further action.

"We expect to receive the results in two months," he said.
