KOTA KINABALU: Sabah now boasts its first Greek restaurant, Chill Taverna, which opened its doors at Wisma Sabah, here, on Tuesday, Borneo Post reported.

The restaurant, which is allegedly also Malaysia's first Greek restaurant, is co-owned by Greek businessman John Embiricos and Marinah Harris, the youngest daughter of former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh.

During the opening ceremony, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister and Api-Api assemblywoman Datuk Christina Liew acknowledged the opening as an important cultural milestone for Sabah.

She expressed hope for future cultural exchanges between Greece and Malaysia, particularly through cuisine and potentially through cultural performances.

The event was attended by notable figures including Sabah Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Greek Consul in Malaysia Stylianos Plainiotis. Guests were treated to a variety of Greek dishes, highlighting traditional flavours with signature dishes like Moussaka and Kleftiko Lamb.
