More than 6,000 contract teachers have been placed in schools nationwide beginning Apr 15.- NSTP file pic

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 6,000 contract teachers have been placed in schools nationwide beginning Apr 15.

According to a statement from the Education Ministry,  1,858 contract teachers were placed in secondary schools while another 4,176 were placed in primary schools.

"The placement of new contract teachers is made based on to three basic requirements, which are the importance, staffing vacancy as as well as subject requirements of the school.

"The appointment of the new contract teachers is a reflection of the continued commitment from the Madani government to improve the quality of national education," the statement read.

The ministry also thanked the Education Service Commission (SPP) on the appointment of the new teachers to meet the current needs in all schools in the country, and affirmed that it would work closely to overcome the issue of teacher shortage in the country.
