KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia extended their wishes to the Sikh and Tamil communities celebrating Vaisakhi and the Tamil New Year.

His Majesty said that tolerance and mutual respect are the pillars of unity in the country.

"As I have emphasised before, the unity between the different races is the most meaningful gift to me.

"Harmony and unity among the people, regardless of religion or ethnicity, are crucial for the stability of the country.

"May this year continue to bring joy to those who celebrate it," said His Majesty in a Facebook post.

Sikhs celebrate Vaisakhi today, while the Tamil New Year will be celebrated tomorrow.
