KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic is starting to build up on several main highways leading into the capital, as the Raya holidays comes to an end.

Higher volume of vehicles have been sighted starting this evening with many families returning home after celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in their hometowns.

Although peak congestion is expected over the weekend, some travellers may have left earlier to avoid the traffic buildup on Saturday and Sunday.

Earlier tonight, The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), which provides frequent updates on X, showed slow-moving traffic on the North-South Expressway, Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway, and East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1).

On the North-South Expressway heading South, traffic was reported to be slow from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh (North); Ipoh (South) to Simpang Pulai, Gua Tempurung to Rest and Rest Area (R&R) Tapah; Sungkai to Slim River, Bukit Tagar and Bukit Beruntung exits to Sungai Buaya.

Traffic is also slow from Kepala Batas to Plaza Tol Hutan Kampung; from Sungai Petani (South) to Bertam; from Seberang Jaya to Perai; from Juru Auto City to Jawi; from Jawi to R&R Gunung Semanggol and the Taiping (North) exit.

In the northern direction, traffic congestion is reported from Simpang Renggam to Ayer Hitam; from Yong Peng to Pagoh;from Ayer Keroh to Simpang Ampat and from Pedas Linggi to Seremban.

Meanwhile, on Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, traffic is reported to be slow from Karak to Bentong; from Bentong to Bukit Tinggi; from Bukit Tinggi to Genting Sempah and at Kilometer (KM) 30.0 heading towards Plaza Tol Gombak.
