KUALA LUMPUR: The North Seberang Prai district police headquarters is investigating claims that the word 'Allah' was inscribed on the soles of a pair of women's shoes, which went viral on Facebook today.

A report was lodged in Penang by a teacher at a primary school in Kepala Batas, who came across a Facebook post by user Hidayah Sani, who shared information about the inscription.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the complainant lodged the report at the Sungai Dua police station in Butterworth, Penang.

"The complainant saw the Facebook post while at home about 4.30am before filing the report

.

"The complainant wanted an investigation to be initiated to identify the responsible party so that appropriate legal action can be taken," he said today.

Razarudin said preliminary investigation found two images showing a pair of cream-coloured women's shoes with the word Allah inscribed on the front part and the sole.

"Investigations also revealed that the post contained a link to a TikTok video on the same matter," he said.

He added that the complainant also discovered that the post had been reshared 8,000 times.

"At present, the police are conducting further investigations under Section 298 of the Penal Code for the offence of intentionally uttering words, sounds, gestures with the intention of hurting the religious feelings of a person.

"Investigations are also being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998."

A check on TikTok showed that the post has since been deleted.
