KUALA LUMPUR: The final weekend before Hari Raya has been a boon for traders in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman as last-minute shoppers turn to the iconic spot for quick deals and promotions.

Checks by the New Straits Times saw the area steadily gaining foot traffic since 9am while many shops had pulled an all-nighter to ensure sales targets were met.

Businesses were also seen offering promotions such as three baju kurung for RM100 and other out-of-this-world discounts.

Traders Zulhafiz Zoelkefli and Hazril Zakaria, who took up a booth to sell clothes just last year, said business was good as Hari Raya approached.

"We have good business so far, with most customers coming to our shop at night when the weather is cooler."

They noted that their colourful selection of plain kurta was well-liked by younger customers and even drew local celebrities.

"Last night, we had actress Janna Nick and her husband come to our shop to purchase our product," they said.

The duo attributed good sales thus far to their marketing strategy of starting early during Ramadan.

Another trader, Fikri Nasrun, said business was slightly slower than usual, but he was optimistic that more customers would turn up.

"Business is rather slow, but the demand is still there, especially during this weekend.

"We had to close our shop at 5am as there were a lot of people shopping at night."

He added that after the government handed out the RM500 Hari Raya bonus to civil servants, more shoppers were flocking to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Last-minute shopper Najib Asri said he had dropped by to get his baju melayu as those sold online had limited sizes and colour options.

"I found a baju melayu that fitted me. Those sold online offered very little choice.

"My wife is also here and she is looking for some deals on headscarves."
