KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia today gave contributions of rice to 194 Istana Negara staff and its management facility workers as well as workers from Istana Melawati in Putrajaya.

A posting on the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar Facebook page said the recipients comprised the Grade 11 and 14 staff at the palaces.

Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara, Datuk Zailani Hashim presented the contributions today.

Also present at the contribution programme were Istana Negara religious officer Datuk Munir Md Salleh

and Istana Negara chief administrative officer Irfan Idrus.

Sultan Ibrahim is also donating 25,000 packs of 10kg rice to the needy in Kuala Lumpur for Ramadan.

It was previously reported that the donations were a heartfelt personal contribution from His Majesty to the needy in the city.

On March 22, Istana Negara Grand Chamberlain Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini presented the donations on behalf of Sultan Ibrahim at Masjid Saidina Hamzah in Kampung Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur.

More donations from His Majesty were being organised for those in need, including after Ramadan.

The initiative is under Istana Negara, in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department and Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council, and they have chosen 10 mosques for the distribution of donations.

Each mosque would receive 2,500 packets of rice for the needy. A 10kg pack of rice costs about RM38.

The rice is being distributed from Monday to Friday throughout Ramadan from 8am to 2pm by mosque committees.

The armed forces is also assisted in delivering the 25,000 rice packs to the mosques.

Masjid Saidina Hamzah was the second mosque to receive the donation after Masjid Al-Imam Al-Ghazali in Bandar Manjalara.

The other mosques were Masjid Amru bin Al-'As in Bandar Baru Sentul, Masjid Al-Imam Al-Shafie in Taman Maluri, Masjid Abu Ubaidah Al-Jarrah in Sri Rampai, Masjid Al-Akram in Datuk Keramat, Masjid Al-Muqarrabin in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Masjid Talhah bin Ubaidillah in Bukit Jalil, Masjid Al-Ikhlasiah in Bukit Kerinchi and Masjid Jamek Al Khadijiah in Pantai Dalam.
