PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed all members of his Cabinet to check the prices and supply of goods by spending more going to the ground.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar relayed the instruction when the latter chaired the Cabinet meeting today.
Fahmi added that Anwar issued such an instruction since the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration is just around the corner.
"The prime minister wants all ministers to spend more time going to the ground and see themselves the situation (in the country) including issues related to the prices or amount of goods available in the market.
"This follows the feedback the prime minister received from attending other programmes in the past," Fahmi, who is also the unity government's spokesman, told reporters here today.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, on March 20 wanted an investigation to be carried out into reports suggesting there was an increase in food prices despite the drop in the prices of rice and poultry.
He also stressed the need for the authorities overseeing the supply of local white rice to improve enforcement and monitoring efforts.
On a separate matter, Fahmi said several important announcements are expected to be made during the KL20 Summit 2024, which will take place from April 22 until April 23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here.
"During the Cabinet meeting today, there were several matters emphasized on the importance of this summit, especially for startups venturing into the technology sector.
"Insya-Allah, more announcements or promotions by the Economy Ministry will be made after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations," he said.
