GEORGE TOWN: Penang mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor has expressed regret over a viral video showing a group of men dancing distastefully while singing a Hari Raya song.

Cosmetics entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman has once again sparked controversy when he uploaded a teaser for his latest Aidilfitri song, 'Love Raya', on his Instagram page on Sunday. It depicted scenes some considered to be inappropriate.

Aliff has since deleted the video and issued an apology.

Wan Salim pointed out that the video went viral during the holy month of Ramadan.

"They disrespected the holy month when they shamelessly danced in an outrageous way, like deranged drunkards.

"Such behaviour shows that they may not have been exposed to religious and moral education by their families.

"As Muslims, we should have manners, especially during Ramadan, and not act as we please."

Yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil asked the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take action over the video.

He said he had received requests for action to be taken over the video as it has caused discomfort among the public.

Wan Salim said Ramadan is a month for worship and good deeds.

"It should not be about inappropriate things, like what this group has done.

"If you want to have fun, do it in a polite way that is appropriate for and respects the holy month."
