KUANTAN: A lone suspect is believed to be responsible for the attack on the KK Mart convenience store at Sungai Isap here with a molotov cocktail, which resulted in minor damages on March 30.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said blurry closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage obtained from nearby premises captured the movements of only one person.

"The CCTV footage obtained at the KK Mart could not provide much help but recordings from other cameras in the vicinity detected the movement of an individual. However, the recording is quite blurry.

"Investigations revealed the suspect might have parked quite a distance from the KK Mart before walking towards the premises prior to the attack. We only spotted the suspect's movements through the footage and are in the midst of gathering other relevant information," he told reporters after the crime prevention campaign at Dataran Sekilau Ramadan Bazaar here yesterday.

Wan Zahari said the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire with the intent to cause damage.

In the 5.14am incident, a molotov cocktail was thrown at the KK Super Mart premises here which has only been in operation for two weeks. The attack resulted in a small fire at the shop's front entrance.

The attack in Kuantan was the second after a KK Mart in Bidor, Perak was hit with a petrol bomb on March 26, but it did not explode. The third attack at a KK Mart store was at Kuching, Sarawak on March 31.

Yesterday, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said four individuals have provided their statements to the police including the KK Mart workers and members of the public.
