KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated S. Sivasangari, who won the London Classic, defeating world No. 2, Hania El Hammamy of Egypt.

In a post on Facebook, Anwar wrote: "I was also informed that she became the first Malaysian player to advance to the final of a gold-tier championship in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour since Datuk Nicol David last did so in 2015.

"Once again, congratulations, and may this victory inspire even more success in the future," wrote the prime minister.

Yesterday, Sivasangari officially announced her arrival in the world of squash when she claimed her first-ever Gold-level PSA Tour title at the US$108,500 London Classic.

The Asian champion produced a phenomenal showing throughout the tournament, pocketing the prize purse of US$17,598.

The world No. 13 Sivasangari's upset her high school rival Hania El Hammamy with 11-9, 5-11, 13-11, 12-14, 11-8 in a thrilling final match that lasted 81 minutes.

Earlier, the Kedah-born player stunned Egypt's world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini in the quarter-finals and world No. 4 Nele Gilis of Belgium in the semi-finals.
