ALOR SETAR: A woman, 59, who was found dead on a prayer mat, had recently prepared frozen ketupat for her family's Aidilfitri celebration.

Her third child, Muhammad Fadzli, 33, when met at Manirah Rafiee's house in Taman Inang, Mergong, said: "Mama prepared frozen ketupat for the family last week for Aidilfitri because she said it's easier to make it earlier, and then we wouldn't have to do it later."

He said his mother was believed to have died due to a heart attack last Thursday before being discovered by her cousin last night.

He received news of his mother's death around 9pm and initially thought his mother had only fainted, but was later informed that she had died.

"My cousin went to my mother's house to check on her after she did not respond to WhatsApp messages. The last time she was seen active on the app was at 7pm last Thursday.

"My cousin found the door locked and the house dark, but the air conditioner was on, which made him uneasy. He called emergency services before the fire brigade arrived to break down the door.

"She was found lying on the prayer mat in the living room with a prayer shawl beside her."

Fadzli said the last time he had met his mother was last Monday when he dropped her off at the bus station at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan because she wanted to return to Mergong after two weeks of staying at his house in Bukit Jalil and her younger sister's house in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

"My mother also cooked confinement dishes for my wife, Nur Afirah Mohd Rasul, 33, who gave birth to our second child, Nur Aina Falisya, 20 days ago when she visited our house.

"My mother also managed to prepare 10kg of ketupat for her customers in Kuala Lumpur."

Manirah Rafiee was buried in the Kampung Lengkuas Islamic Cemetery, Bukit Pinang, around 11am today.
