KUALA LUMPUR: The family of Wan Nur Adlina Alisa, the Malaysian student who died in a road accident at Lake Tekapo, New Zealand, yesterday, has left for the country to make funeral arrangements.

Nurul Ain Zulkifli, a family member, today said the deceased's parents, Wan Zainal Adilee and his wife, along with her elder sister and siblings, had also travelled there.

"We are waiting for updates on the situation. If there are any developments, we will tell people about it," she said when contacted.

Yesterday, New Zealand media reported that an accident involving two vehicles and a motorcycle happened on State Highway 8 near Lake Pukaki.

Besides Wan Nur Adlina Alisa, another student from the same university who died was Megat Ashman Aqif Megat Irman Jefni.

Two of the injured students were Nur Firas Wafiyyah and Lya Issable Walton from the University of Canterbury. A third injured person was Muhamad Faris Mohd Fairusham from Victoria University of Wellington.

Nurul Ain added that Wan Nur Adlina Alisa's family had not yet decided whether to repatriate her remains to Malaysia or to arrange for her burial in New Zealand.

"Wan Nur Adlina was my husband's cousin. She was a good person. May paradise be for her.

Mior Syazril, the father of one Malaysian student who was called to identify the bodies at the scene, shared his anguish on Facebook.

His daughter, Iman Izzati, was one of the four students present.

"We received many questions about my daughter, as people assumed that she was involved in the accident. However, she was at the scene to assist with identification.

"Although she was not directly involved, the incident deeply affected us. Please keep my daughter, her friends and the families of the victims in your prayers."
