PETALING JAYA: With less than nine hours left before the registration for the Central Database Hub (Padu) closes, Malaysians are taking advantage of the physical registration booths available to submit and update their data.

At the Sri Aman Apartments in SS1 here today, many of those who came to register were the elderly, some even coming with their friends and family.

For retiree Chin Chee Len, she decided to come to the registration programme from Old Klang Road, as she had difficulties doing it on her own.

"I decided to come and told my friend to come with me, so I picked her up before coming here.

"The government said registering on Padu will benefit us. I'm already retired and I have no income, so I hope by registering in Padu, I will be able to receive government aid."

Another retiree, who only wanted to be known as Tan KH, said he had been meaning to get his data on Padu updated, but had always been preoccupied.

The former teacher said he was not worried about speculation that his data would be compromised.

"What is there to be hacked? If (scammers) try to (access the data and) take my money, they will need my thumb print. Without that, they cannot do anything," he said.

Tan, who is 80, was brought to the registration drive by his friend.

"The whole process was very quick. It took me less than 10 minutes," he added.

Meanwhile Asiah Ismail, 63, said she had delayed registering as she did not know how to complete the details by herself.

"I needed some assistance, and I don't have very good eyesight, so I'm glad they came here to help.

"I think it's important for people to register. For me, I'm just a contract worker at a factory, and I don't have much income.

"This will help the government identify people like me, who may be left out from any targeted aid."
