KUALA LUMPUR: Three policemen who helped save two children in a fire in an apartment in Wangsa Maju on March 18 received recognition for their bravery from the Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain yesterday.

Lance Corporal Mohamad Khairul Annuar Ahmad, 32, Lance Corporal Mohamad Hazieril Hanif Ahmad, 31 and Corporal Muhammad Shahrul Andhar, 25, each received a certificate of appreciation presented by Razarudin at his office at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, yesterday.

The video of the meeting between the policemen and the IGP was also shared on the police Facebook page.

In the one-hour meeting, Razarudin also gave them some advice to continue to provide the best service to the community, country and religion.

"What good things we do must be shown so that it can be emulated... actually, this letter of appreciation could have been given on the parade ground as usual.

"But in this month of Ramadan, I take the opportunity to present this certificate of appreciation in the room of the IGP which not everyone can enter so that the situation is different.

"There is a difference (in receiving the certificate in the IGP's room) so that other members of the force are inspired and motivated to emulate your efforts," he said in the meeting.

It was reported earlier that the three members of the Wangsa Maju police station took quick action to break open the door of an apartment unit to evacuate the two children who were covered in thick smoke during a fire in an apartment on March 18.

The video of the incident caught the attention of Razarudin who later shared his appreciation to them through his Tiktok account.

Meanwhile, Nur Shahrul said  he did not think that the number one cop in the country would want to meet a policeman like him to personally present the certificate of appreciation.

"I couldn't sleep after I got a call from the IGP saying he wanted to meet me. I could not stop thinking about how the number one cop in the force wanted to see a normal policeman like myself.

"(This means) what we've been doing on the ground, the IGP is paying close attention. When we do well, we will definitely be rewarded well. This shows  he supports our efforts.

"A good subordinate reflects good leadership," he said.
