KUALA LUMPUR: MIC wants the government to strip the citizenship of a man, N. Ganesparan, for insulting Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the police.

Youth chief R. Thinalan today said action must be taken against Ganesparan since the latter was a threat to the unity and harmony of the country.

"MIC condemns the action of Ganesparan, a Malaysian residing in Germany, who has released a clip insulting Islam, the Sultan of Selangor and the police.

"MIC urges the government to take action to prevent any elements promoting disloyalty from continuing to threaten and disrupt the harmony of the people and country.

"His citizenship should be revoked because this person is no longer loyal to the country through actions or speech, as stipulated in the Constitution," he said in a statement on MIC's Facebook page.

It was reported that the police had opened 22 investigation papers on the case.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police believed Ganesparan's video was recorded overseas.

He said records showed that Ganesparan had not returned since he left the country in 2018.

He added that this was not the first time Ganesparan had made offensive statements about the royal institution, religion and politics.
