KUANTAN: The public will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break their fast in a mass picnic at the Darul Makmur stadium field here on April 5.

The Darul Makmur Stadium Corporation (PSDM) is believed to be the first in the country to open their doors for such an event after previously hosting football matches and concerts.

PSDM manager Izad Zainal Muhammad Safian said the event will allow people, especially those living in the state capital to gather and break their fast together on the football field.

"This is the first time the stadium is hosting the breaking of fast on the field and it might be the last time it does so as the field will soon undergo refurbishment. The grass for the pitch will be replaced.

"Before major works, PSDM wants the public to have an experience that they had before. We are expecting more than 5,000 people to attend the event," he said when met today.

Meanwhile, Izad Zainal said the public are only allowed to spread mats to break their fast on the field and they are not allowed to utilise the newly-renovated running tracks.

"PSDM staff will be on duty to manage the crowd and if the field is too crowded, we will allow the public to fill up the seating section. We urge the public to ensure cleanliness and dispose of rubbish into the bins," he said, adding the stadium gates will be open for the public starting 6.30pm onwards on April 5.

It is learnt that the Darul Makmur Stadium, which was opened in 1973 is scheduled to undergo upgrading works later this year including replacing the existing cow grass pitch with carpeted Bermuda grass.

In July last year, PSDM opened the synthetic running track to the public without any charges to promote a healthy lifestyle.
