KUCHING: A standard five student who was reported missing while waiting for breakfast at the Engkudu School in Saratok, this morning has been found safe and sound.

Neelofa Entira Entegang was found by villagers in the plantation area approximately a kilometre away from the school at 3.24pm.

A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department's central operations centre said Neelofa was subsequently taken to Saratok Hospital for a health examination.

He said the Search And Rescue (SAR) operation for the 11-year-old girl was initiated after they received an emergency call at 8.27am today

.

"Neelofa, who was wearing her school uniform, was last seen at 5.50am in the Year 5 class at SK Engkudu while waiting for breakfast to be served.

"Her disappearance was realised at 5.55am and a search was conducted by friends and teachers around the school but they failed to locate her," he said.

Nine firemen from the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station launched the SAR this morning within a two-kilometre radius around the school, including the surrounding forested areas.

He said the SAR was also aided by four police officers, 10 school staff, and 10 village residents.

"The operation continued in the afternoon with the search expanded to a three-kilometre radius from the last location the victim was seen, up to the victim's family residence, Rumah Panjang Bundak, in Sungai Anak, Saratok.
