PUTRAJAYA: Applicants for Malaysian citizenship will be provided with explanations in the event their applications get rejected.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said this in response to complaints that applications had been denied without adequate explanations.

"Following this Federal Constitution amendment, we will look into the Acts to identify which aspects that can be improved.

"This could also include that applicants will be informed on what grounds that their applications were rejected," he said during a special meeting with ministries, departments, agencies, and media practitioners, here.

The objective of the meeting was to brief on the amendments to the Federal Constitution pertaining to the citizenship of foundlings.

Saifuddin also reminded applicants to provide complete details to avoid any issues.

"Results for the application will also be informed within a year.

"Therefore, make sure the application is complete, and do not use any fake documentation."
