SHAH ALAM: The government has no plans to extend the March 31 deadline for the Central Database Hub (Padu) registration.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said that extending the deadline would delay the government's implementation of planned subsidy restructuring and targeted subsidies.
"As of now, there are no plans to extend the registration period beyond March 31.
"Granting extensions would result in an additional cost of RM2 billion to the government every month in fuel subsidies," he said during the Padu town hall held at the MBSA Convention Centre here.
Rafizi was responding to a question from one of the attendees at the town hall, who asked if the government would extend the deadline after March 31.
Present was Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin.
Earlier, Rafizi reiterated his concerns over the low number of registrations with the Central Database Hub (Padu) among Selangor residents.
He said 1,224 localities in the state have yet to register under Padu.
Rafizi said Petaling Jaya has the highest number of people who have not registered with Padu, followed by Hulu Langat, Sepang, Gombak, Klang, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.
"Majority of those not registered with Padu in Selangor reside in flats, apartments and condominiums."
