KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth will propose a motion to suspend its youth leader in Johor, who is currently facing charges of sexual assault.

Its Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said Umno will soon decide the punishment and membership status of the youth leader, expected before Hari Raya.

He said Umno will never compromise on crime issues and strict action will be taken against the youth leader.

"The issue was raised during the Supreme Council Meeting earlier. We have agreed to initiate disciplinary action, which will be discussed further in the party's management meeting to determine the appropriate course of action.

"Maybe we could suspend his (status) first while awaiting court proceedings. However, should he be found guilty, we ask for very stern action on him," he told reporters after breaking fast in the World Trade Centre here today.

He was responding to a youth leader of a political party in Johor facing charges of sexual assault after five police reports were lodged by six alleged victims.

Mersing district police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said two police reports were made by two victims and that they have received three more reports from four people.

He said the case is being investigated according to Section 377C of the Penal Code for carnal intercourse against the order of nature.

When questioned about whether Umno Youth would provide assistance to the victims, Akmal said he would refrain from intervening in police investigations.

"Let the investigation proceed smoothly. As a political party, we maintain our uncompromising stance and will take interim action while awaiting the outcome of the prosecution.

"If found guilty, we will call for his removal as a member," he said.
