PETALING JAYA: Police have confirmed receiving a report from a company claiming ownership of a luggage bag, which contains more than RM500,000 in cash, that was found at a shopping centre's parking lot near Damansara.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the report was lodged in Shah Alam.

"A police report has been lodged, claiming that the money belongs to the company.

"As such, we have initiated an investigation to verify the claim," he said.

Previously, the media reported that security guards at a Damansara shopping centre found a white-pink luggage bag in the parking lot containing cash exceeding RM500,000.

Hussein said a local security guard in his 30s lodged a report about the discovery of the luggage bag around 8am on March 20.

Upon inspection, it was revealed that the bag contained RM50 and RM100 banknotes, amounting to more than RM500,000.
