KOTA KINABALU: 50 asnaf (needy) children from various schools around Kota Kinabalu were the recipients of school supplies and duit raya, in a charitable event held during the Karnival Sihat Waqaf 2024 at Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Media reported.

The contributions were presented by Yayasan Nur Jauhar (YNJ) Honorary Secretary and State Baitulmal Corporation Chairman Datuk Dr Omar Raisul Assalam Syah. The event also saw participation from CEO of KPJ Healthcare Berhad for Sabah and Sarawak Asmadi Mohd Bakri and State Director of BSN Khairul Hazwani.

Organised by KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, in collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, the two-day carnival aimed to spread the spirit of Ramadan, promote a healthy lifestyle, raise awareness about waqf (endowment) efforts, and share contributions with the underprivileged community.

KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital General Manager Mohamad Faizal Mohamed said that the event was a comprehensive initiative targeting various age groups, including children, adolescents, and adults. Specialist doctors were invited to provide health briefings, focusing on medical practices during the holy month of Ramadan.

KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital made a significant contribution of RM5,000 to Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu and handed over RM60,000 in business zakat to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS).

The carnival, which ran from March 17 to March 18, featured various activities like Quran completion ceremonies, blood donation drives, colouring contests, health talks, prime lectures, and the distribution of bubur lambuk, enriching the community spirit during the festive season.
