JOHOR BARU: A factory in Batu Pahat is under investigation to establish if it is the distributors of the controversial socks with the name of "Allah" printed on it.

Johor Islamic Religious Council chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said investigations were being carried out by Batu Pahat policemen after it was revealed that the socks were imported from China and sent to a factory in Johor.

"I am equally angered and upset about the sale of the socks, which sparked anger among Muslims, but we should be patient and not speculate, until investigations are concluded," he said.

He said the state Religious Department supports any planned legal action against parties involved and was ready to assist the relevant authorities if the need arises.

"We will mobilise our enforcement unit to support the relevant agencies in raids or joint-operations," he added.
