ARAU: Former Perlis Immigration deputy director died while attending a lecture after Subuh prayers at the State Mosque here on Sunday.

Yahya Kadir, 65, suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious during the lecture.

Arau acting deputy police chief Assistant Superintendent Mohd Norzuki Husain said the incident happened at 7.10am.

"I was made to understand that Yahya was not a kariah member of the mosque, but he always attended the lectures organised by the mosque's administration.

"While sitting and listening to the lecture, he suddenly fell and became unresponsive. The congregation tried to assist, but there was no response," he said.

Norzuki said the mosque authorities called an ambulance, and the paramedics pronounced him dead when they arrived at the scene.
