KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak and SME Aerospace (SMEA) have recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to nurture collaboration in the aerospace industry and address the growing demand for capability and capacity development within this sector, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

In a joint statement released, the MoU is set to encourage cooperation in the development of highly skilled human capital in the field of aerospace. This partnership encompasses knowledge sharing, skills and talent development, technology transfer, as well as joint research and development initiatives in high-technology aerospace engineering and manufacturing.

Director of Yayasan Sarawak Mersal Abang Rosli expressed his enthusiasm about working with SMEA to cultivate a highly skilled workforce that aligns with both local and international demands in the aerospace sector.

"This development is in line with the state's initiatives to provide quality education and human capital development with the goal of elevating Sarawak to a high-income society through the creation of high-value jobs," he said.

Director of SME Aerospace Datuk Suffian Ahmad said that he remains confident that this collaboration will bring significant benefits to both parties and anticipates considerable potential in the partnership with Yayasan Sarawak to synergise strengths and expertise.

"This partnership will not only benefit our organisation but also contribute to the overall development and vision of the aerospace industry in Sarawak," he said.

The collaboration between Yayasan Sarawak and SMEA is expected to enhance the aerospace manufacturing sector and facilitate the implementation of related projects by leveraging each other's advantages and strengths. Additionally, it aims to act as a catalyst for the state's aviation ecosystem, attracting industry players to establish bases in Sarawak.

This partnership is also in line with plans to stimulate Sarawak's green economy through the use of hydrogen and microalgae as sustainable aviation fuels, marking a significant step towards the development of an eco-friendly aerospace industry in the region.
